Last night they gave us some free time to play a game or watch a movie (this is my kind of spiritual retreat!). We picked out an old Don Knotts picture, “The Reluctant Astronaut”. (Seemed fitting in light of his recent death) Sure, Don Knotts is classic, but movie making has come a long way.
You know you have a real winner when the movie trailer has lines like
“See Don in every type of training equipment”
(whooo, you don’t see training equipment everyday, now do you?)
“See Don in orbit”
(I’m pretty sure that was not actual footage)
“It’ll put you in hysterics”
(The over exaggeration being your classic indicator)
They flash glorious special effects such as crackers suspended in the air on string…ingenious.
O well, it sure had to be more exciting than hopping in the car to cruse this tiny town of 900 to see if they had a 24-hour gas station. As the older participants headed to bed at 8:20 they told us that maybe the new Subway in the gas station might be open. The big city has ruined me! Actually I am just enjoying a slower paced life....usually
