In my afternoon class, most of the people sitting around me are divorced and have at least one child. They swap some ex-stories and generally have a poor view of marriage. The girl on my left and guy on my right were talking the other day about how they'd never make the mistake of getting into a marriage again. Especially when the stats just get worse the more times you get married.
I realize that even in the "Christian" community we don't have a great track-record with marriage. Really, unless you are a religious person who views marriage in light of faith, why would you get married for mere humanistic hedonism? Sure I think that especially for us women there is a desire for monogamy (in GENERAL as we get older...yes yes I know the exceptions). Apart from a religious view would people get married?
So that leads me to wonder also why then there is such a huge push for gay marraige. (All other moral issues and implications with that aside) Why is the homosexual community pushing for something so many heterosexuals want to renounce? Health benefits?
Just so we're clear I'm not bashing marriage or condoning "alternatives". I'm just stepping back for a sec and just looking at this on the surface. I hope to be married and that it will be a good relationship that reflects the love of Christ. I'm just curious why apart from traditional values people would push for it. (They can mess around wherever, whenever in their minds)
